Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Have You Been Working in Education?
I have over 20 years of experience in secondary music education. I was Head of Music at a Norfolk high school for more than two decades, followed by a role as Lead Practitioner for Music in a large multi-academy trust. I now work as a freelance consultant and continue to teach A level Music at a sixth form college.
What Do You Do?
I’m a freelance music education consultant working with secondary schools across the UK. I support schools in shaping high-quality, inclusive music curricula and delivering effective, evidence-informed teaching and learning. I also provide professional development, strategic guidance, student workshops, and music specific Ofsted preparation.
What Is Your Background?
My background is in classical music, and I trained as a secondary music teacher after completing my music degree. I’m a violinist, and I remain active as a performer by playing in several orchestras. I also love to sing and, until recently, I played keyboards in a band. My experience spans classroom teaching, leadership, research, and consultancy. I also completed a Master of Education focusing on informal learning in secondary music classrooms.
Who Do You Work With?
I work with secondary schools, trusts, music departments, hubs and individual educators. My clients include schools across all key stages, senior leaders, music teachers, and performing arts coordinators. I also work with community music organisations like Sistema in Norwich and I do freelance work for Musical Futures UK.
